Why Does Acne Leave Scars?
Acne scars form when inflamed pimples have damaged the skin tissue deep down and the skin produces too little or irregular new tissue as it heals. The stronger and longer the inflammation, the higher the risk of visible scars.
What Types of Acne Scars Are There?
The most common are atrophic, sunken scars such as ice pick, boxcar and rolling scars. Raised, hypertrophic scars are less common. The scar type largely determines which method makes sense.
What Does Microneedling Really Do for Acne Scars?
A randomised, placebo-controlled split-face study at Northwestern University compared one side of the face treated with microneedling with an untreated control side in twenty people with acne scars, after three sessions two weeks apart (Alam et al., JAMA Dermatology, 2014). After six months, the treated side showed a significant visible improvement in scarring compared with the control side. The study examined classic microneedling, not our specific treatments – but it shows that the principle is well supported by science.

Very deep, strongly sunken scars such as pronounced ice pick scars often respond only to a limited extent to our methods. In that case, we tell you openly and show you where you are in better hands.
