What Is the Difference Between Scar Treatment and Scar Revision?
Scar revision usually means medical, often surgical procedures that change a scar operatively. At AFACIAL, we offer scar treatment without surgery: Laser and microneedling can visibly soften a scar, but they cannot cut it out. We clarify which route suits you in your skin analysis.
How Well Can Scars Be Treated With a Laser?
Lasers can visibly smooth scars and even out their colour, but scars rarely disappear completely. The flatter and older the scar, the better the result often is. Several sessions usually make sense, and the result builds up over months.
What Does Microneedling Really Do for Scars?
A randomised split-face study at Northwestern University looked at 20 adults with acne scars: One half of the face was treated three times, two weeks apart, with a needling device, while the other half stayed untreated (Alam et al., JAMA Dermatology, 2014). After six months, scar scores on the treated side were clearly lower than at the start, unlike on the control side. The study tested one needling device on acne scars, not our treatments specifically.
When Is the Best Time to Treat Scars With a Laser?
Ideally when the scar has healed and matured. Depending on the scar, this often takes several months. After the treatment, you should avoid the sun for a few weeks, so autumn and winter work well.
Do You Also Treat Keloids and Raised Scars?
No. Keloids and strongly raised scars need medical treatment, for example from a dermatologist. Our methods also reach their limits with very deep, strongly sunken scars. In your skin analysis, we tell you openly if your scar falls into this group.
How Much Does Scar Treatment Cost in Vienna?
