HydraFacial and microneedling are among the most popular facials at AFACIAL. Both leave your skin looking fresher, but they work in very different ways. Here you’ll find the differences at a glance and which treatment fits your skin goal.
The difference in two sentences
HydraFacial deep-cleanses the pores and floods the skin with moisture. Microneedling uses fine needles to boost the skin’s natural regeneration and collagen production, improving skin texture.
How HydraFacial works
HydraFacial is a non-invasive treatment. Its special vortex technology does three things at once:
- Loosen: dead skin cells and surface build-up are gently removed.
- Extract: the pores are thoroughly cleared of sebum and impurities.
- Infuse: active ingredients, antioxidants and moisture are delivered into the skin.
Many clients see the difference right after the treatment: the skin looks smoother, fresher and more radiant. There is no downtime. You’ll find the steps and packages on our page HydraFacial in Vienna.
How microneedling works
In microneedling, fine, precise needles create controlled micro-channels in the skin. This stimulates natural regeneration and the production of collagen and elastin.
- Stimulate: the micro-channels boost collagen and elastin production.
- Renew: the skin remodels its texture, scars and fine lines.
- Infuse: serums penetrate especially deeply through the micro-channels.
Often the skin already looks fresher and smoother after the first session. The full effect on skin texture builds up over several sessions. More on our page Microneedling in Vienna.

When HydraFacial is the better choice
- your pores are clogged or you have blackheads
- your complexion looks dull and tired
- your skin is dry and needs moisture
- you want a visible result without downtime
When microneedling is the better choice
- fine lines or enlarged pores bother you
- you have acne scars or pigmentation spots
- you want to improve your skin texture long term
Can you combine both?
Yes. At AFACIAL, HydraFacial and microneedling are available as a combination in one 75-minute session. It pairs deep cleansing with work on skin texture and is especially suited to acne scars, pigmentation spots and first signs of ageing.
When it’s better to wait
For both treatments: we don’t treat fresh sunburn, open skin or skin during isotretinoin therapy. For microneedling, pregnancy and breastfeeding, active inflammatory acne, herpes and blood thinners are added to the list. For HydraFacial, there shouldn’t be an acute rosacea flare-up.
Not sure? Your skin analysis decides
You don’t have to decide on your own. Your skin analysis is included at your first visit. We take a close look at your skin and honestly recommend what it needs, even if that’s less. Our skin quiz gives you a first direction.
